Through the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI), Lumora has secured funds worth £200k towards the development of a universal, handheld device for the rapid, simultaneous detection of both nucleic acids and small molecules (DNA and proteins) from pathogens in the food supply. Initial targets include E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella enteritidis and bovine tuberculosis.

In collaboration with the National Institute of Agriculture and Botany (NIAB), Lumora was awarded a Co-Extra/Framework 6 grant from the European Union to develop a handheld device for the in-the-field tracing of genetically modified crops and foodstuffs which can then be easily adapted toward the diagnosis of plant diseases.
